Acceptable Use Policy

Version 2026-08-30  ยท  Effective 30 August 2026
Terms of Service Acceptable Use Policy Privacy Policy

This policy covers what you may and may not run on MossMC. It applies to every server, every plugin, and everything your players do on your server. It forms part of the Terms of Service.

The short version: don't break the law, don't attack anyone, don't put us or other customers at risk, and run a server you would be comfortable explaining to a parent.

1. Illegal and harmful content

Never host, distribute or link to:

  • Sexual content involving minors, in any form, including drawn, rendered or textual. This is reported to law enforcement without warning and without exception.
  • Content that sexualises real children, or that sexualises anyone without their consent.
  • Material that incites violence, or that harasses, threatens or targets a person or group.
  • Content promoting self-harm, suicide or eating disorders.
  • Stolen data, credentials, payment details, or personal information published to harass someone.
  • Pirated software, cracked plugins, or paid resources you do not have a licence for.

2. Attacks and abuse of infrastructure

Do not use a MossMC server to:

  • Launch or participate in denial-of-service attacks, port scans, or intrusion attempts against anyone, including other MossMC customers.
  • Mine cryptocurrency, run proxies or VPN exit nodes, host botnet infrastructure, or run anything unrelated to Minecraft that exists mainly to consume resources.
  • Send spam, or host phishing pages or malware.
  • Attempt to reach other customers' servers, our control panel's internals, our database, or any part of our infrastructure you were not given access to. This includes probing internal addresses from inside your container.
  • Deliberately exhaust CPU, memory, disk or network beyond your plan in a way that degrades the node for others.

Security research on your own server is fine. Testing our infrastructure without asking is not โ€” email [email protected] first and we will almost certainly say yes.

3. Conduct on the MossMC network

Our lobbies and the server browser are a shared space. On them:

  • Do not harass, threaten, or bully other players, and do not use slurs.
  • Do not impersonate MossMC staff, or another player.
  • Do not use adverts (/ad) to post anything you could not post in chat, to advertise servers outside MossMC, or to spam.
  • Do not advertise the sale of accounts, ranks or in-game items for real money outside MossMC.
  • Do not exploit bugs. If you find one, report it โ€” we would rather reward you than ban you.

Your own server's rules are yours to set, within this policy. If you allow adult language on your server, that is your call; if you allow harassment, it becomes our problem and yours.

4. Minecraft's own rules

Every server on MossMC must comply with Mojang's Minecraft End User Licence Agreement and its commercial usage guidelines. In particular, you may not sell anything that gives a player a gameplay advantage over another player.

Selling cosmetic items, ranks that grant only cosmetic or convenience perks, and access to a server are generally permitted. Selling in-game currency, powerful items, kits that affect combat, or anything described as "pay to win" is not, and puts both your server and our network at risk.

If you are unsure whether something you want to sell is allowed, ask us before you build it.

5. Responsibility for your players

You are responsible for what happens on your server, including what your players do. That does not mean you must read every chat message. It means you need a way for people to report problems to you, and you need to act when they do.

If your server has under-18 players, and most Minecraft servers do, take that seriously when choosing plugins, moderation and chat settings.

6. How we enforce this

What we do depends on what happened.

  • Most things: we contact you, explain the problem, and give you a reasonable chance to fix it.
  • Serious or ongoing abuse: we suspend the server or account immediately, then explain.
  • Illegal content: immediate termination, preservation of evidence, and a report to the relevant authorities.

Suspension for a breach of this policy does not entitle you to a refund of tokens or of a paid plan period.

We try to be proportionate. A first offence that gets fixed is usually the end of it. Repeatedly doing the same thing is not.

7. Reporting a problem

To report abuse, illegal content, or a security issue, email [email protected]. Include the server address or player name, what you saw, and roughly when. Reports about illegal content are looked at the same day.

Questions about any of this? Email [email protected]. We would rather answer a question than have you guess.
